Why Fishing Apparel Is Important & What Should You Wear On Your Next Trip

Going fishing is a great way to spend the day. But it’s so much more than just getting out on the boat or sitting on a riverbank. What you wear is just as important as the gear you use.

Clothing and fishing apparel is an important part of your fishing adventure, whether for a few hours off the dock, or several more out on the lake or ocean. Most casual fishers don’t likely think too much about what they are going to wear.

    Fishing Apparel

What you need to look for in your fishing apparel is comfort, flexibility, something that will breathe, something that will keep you protected from the sun, the bugs, the rain, the heat, and move with you without binding or holding you back. Simple, no?

You also need to think about hats and caps, accessories, footwear, and they all need to do what you want them to. A tee, some cargo shorts, and your cap that holds two beer might be great for an hour or two, but if you are determined, you will need a bit more.

You also want to be able to get everything you need from a few pieces. A tee-shirt underneath something with long sleeves, shorts under long pants, or sweats, as you may need to layer rather than pack a bag.

If you are looking for some great options for men and women, check out our website for more ideas on tops, hats, shorts, leggings, and so much more. One of the biggest challenges is comfort.

You need to be comfortable while sitting, possibly in cramped or awkward spaces, like a small boat, for long periods of time. That means loose-fitting clothes that won’t pinch, bunch up, or cut into you.

You need protection from the sun, as this can be a health hazard for many people, especially their first time out in the nicer weather. You need protection yet something that is breathable.

    Shirts

Consider a tee-shirt, like the Conroe Henley. Comfort and stylish, these tees are designed with UPF 50 sun protection. They are also lightweight, comfortable, and will move with you.

Three buttons at the collar allow for comfort, radial sleeves to allow you to move your arms freely, won’t shrink, dries fast if you get wet, and odor-resistant.

The Up River button-down shirt is a great looking shirt, but it is also very functional for the fishing enthusiast. This shirt is very soft and comfortable with built-in UPF 50 sun protection that shields you from harmful UV rays.

The two pockets will come in very handy, as will the odor-resistant material. It’s light-weight and will dry very quickly if it gets wet. You will look great on the boat and in the pub later for a few cold ones.

    Shorts and Pants

It’s just as important that your bottom half is comfortable. If you are sitting in a boat, there is a good chance you will get wet at some point during your trip. Sweatpants are a good idea, as they move with you, are often light material, and can be worn loose with shorts underneath.

For shorts, there is the Tidal Shorts. They have a four-way stretch to make sure you are always comfortable and they won’t impede you when you need to sit for long periods, stand up, bend over, and will keep you dry.

These will fit nicely under a longer loose pant, are loose themselves to give you room to move, the material is very breathable, and they are extremely durable.

    Hats and Caps

There are plenty of caps and hats at Reel Sportswear to choose from. Hats are also a great way to protect your head from the heat and the sun. They also protect your face and scalp from getting sunburnt.

A fisher without a cap with a few hooks hanging off of it is hardly worth the price of their license. Here are plenty of designs and colors to choose from for both men and women.

There is also a Solar Bandit that is lightweight and will provide protection to your head, ears, neck, and face. It is made to withstand UV rays up to 50 and is made of a breathable material.

It’s a tube that slides over your head, and then you can adjust it to where you feel it is most comfortable.
