Fishermen off the Florida Keys land a massive 758-pound swordfish.
Back in March 2019, Capt. Nick Stanczyk and his clients, a couple from Cape Coral, bagged a massive 757.8-pound swordfish after a grueling 8-hour battle.
Initially, Capt. Stanczyk was unaware of how big the fish was. After roughly 40 minutes, he was able to get his first look at the electric blue swordfish and guessed it weighed somewhere around the 400-pound mark. Over the next several hours, the beast would continuously dive deep and then come storming back up to the surface, but it never broke free from the line.
With the battle well into the fifth hour, the crew finally got their first real glimpse of the swordfish and quickly realized it weighed over 600 lbs. 3 hours later Capt. Stanczyk and his clients Bill and Debbie Lussier were finally able to harpoon the giant and bring him aboard. The entire fight had pulled Stanczyk and his crew 20 miles away from where they had hooked the beast.
The fish weighed in at an astonishing 757.8 pounds, a personal record for Stanczyk, and a new Florida record, according to The Miami Herald.
What an amazing story, congrats to the Captain and his crew! Read Capt. Stanczyk's full account of the catch and watch their youtube video below.
