Dierks Bentley Fined for Fishing Without License After Making an Incriminating post on Instagram
Back in September, Dierks Bentley was full-blown festival mode out in Buena Vista, Colorado when he decided to take some outdoor time with his buddy Luke Bryan. It's common to find Dierks and his friends casting a line or two during the tour's downtime, but this trip would land the singer in a little trouble with the law.
After goading his pal in a post on Instagram, Dierks accidentally got the attention of concertgoers who reached out to the Colorado Parks & Wildlife officials in efforts to ensure the musicians had the proper documents to fish the waterways of the colorful state.
“Day 3 off to a good start @sevenpeaksfest! #living (btw… @lukebryan only caught one and this is my third in 30 mins… not that it’s a competition… totally not… fishing and Seven Peaks is all about community and good vibes… but if it was a competition… I would be crushing him. But it’s not. But if… just saying),” Bentley captioned a photo of himself Monday holding up a brown trout.
Neither Bentley or Bryan possessed a Colorado fishing license.
“We didn’t have any proof until Mr. Bentley posted a photo on his Instagram,” Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokesman Bill Vogrin told the Denver Post. Dierks’ photo from Cottonwood Creek led officers to track him down, where they found out that he did not, in fact, have a license.
Dierks was approached in town and promptly paid the $139.50 fine. Officials stated the interaction was cordial and the singer would be more than welcomed next time, as long as he got his fishing license. Following the citation, Dierks warned his pals in a tweet:
“Little heads up Lukey. Hardy…..?! Actually appreciate the ticket. Appreciate being treated like a regular person. Appreciate what @COParksWildlife does. I’ll be all licensed up next time! @LukeBryanOnline @HardyMusic,” read Bentley’s tweet, which included a video of himself being ticketed in an officer’s truck.
Dierks had this to say after it was all said and done. “It was very heartening that [the concertgoers] cared that much,” he said. “In Colorado, people love country music — but they also love their trout.”
We can definitely dig, the authenticity of the country music star and give him props for settling up. As huge fans of the Dierks and his music, we are stoked to see that he loves the outdoors (specifically fishing) as much as we do and for all those forgetful folks, remember to grab your license before hitting the water.
